Bean Town Weekend – Our Stay at The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel

It was a Friday evening on the 5th of July when we arrived at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. We (my boyfriend Sean and best friend Sophie) had just spent the 4th of July celebrating on the coast of Scituate – fireworks, beach, beer, burgers and all. So you can only imagine the state we were in the next morning, as we strolled into the most beautiful hotel in Boston for check in. As I admired the sky painted ceilings and walked through beautiful golden arches in my oversized sweatshirt and sweatpants, I met eyes with the most adorable black lab. She was literally being walked through the hotel by one of the staff members, and as it turns out she is actually Carly Copley, the hotel’s official doggy ambassador! Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with animals goes pretty far, so this was pretty much the best day ever. And moral of the story is YES; The Fairmont Copley Hotel is PET FRIENDLY.

After lots of doggy love, we finally made our way to the check in counter. Though I looked and felt less than decent, the receptionist graciously greeted and checked us in for the weekend. It’s safe to say it was my most memorable check in experience. And like most great stories folks, that is how we started our amazing stay at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel.

As we entered our room, we were met with three enormous glass paneled windows. The windows spanned from the top all the way down to a built in bench, which gave view on the entire Copley Square Plaza, with the Boston Public Library sitting just across. We already knew this was going to be our breakfast spot! Sat on the bench, people watching and appreciating Boston’s most beautiful monuments.

We eventually finished gawking at the view and decided first things first, showers. The view from the bathroom was just as impressive, and the all white marble floors and fixtures would have made my interior designer of a sister dream.

As we finished showering and relaxed in our bathrobes, there was a knock on the door.  And as if the hotel pup wasn’t enough, there was a man standing at the door with a cheese and meat plate in his hands! Are you kidding me? We felt like royalty in our palace!

We got ready for the night as we munched on our fancy treats and tried to decide where we wanted to go. After all, the Fairmont was so centralized within Boston that we were minutes away from just about anything in the Back Bay. Newbury Street, 2 minutes away, Prudential Center, 3 minutes away, and most importantly – Lolita’s tacos, across the street. For those of you who don’t know, Lolita’s is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Boston. You must try if you haven’t already!

Anyway, we ended up doing all three, starting with Lolita’s of course. Usually, we’re driving from 40 minutes outside of Boston and trying to find parking for a half hour before walking another 30 to our location of the night. Staying at the Fairmont Copley allowed us to step out from our hotel room onto Newbury Street in minutes. The evening was so nice and everything was so close together after having started in one central location. We had ourselves a night out on the town! The best part was being able to walk right back up to our hotel room after a long night, not having to worry about driving home.

The next morning, we slowly woke up to the sound of busy streets while people started about their day. The sounds of chatting, driving, birds chirping…the people of Boston chirping. We were surrounded by all this life and simply sat back and observed from our private window, while sipping on our morning coffees. It felt amazing to be able to completely relax and take everything in without having to worry about what came next.

Thankfully, brunch came next. Who doesn’t love a good brunch! What about an amazing one? Well, The Fairmont Copley knows how to brunch. A bloody Mary bar, fresh juices, great coffee and a food spread unlike any other.  We went ahead and ordered the monkey bread, strawberry and cream waffles, avocado toast with crab and the shakshouka platter to share. Did I already say amazing?

It really was incredible, my favorite being the avocado toast with crab! I do love a good avocado toast. And on top of it all, the restaurant atmosphere was so elegant and charming. It felt like we were taken back into the 1900’s for a quick brunch! Overall, we left feeling perfectly satisfied and ready for the day.

We spent another great day in the city, going bowling, strolling the gardens, shopping on Newbury Street and exploring small streets. Though after a long day, we were excited to go back to the hotel and finally take advantage of it’s beauty, and amenities. We decided to explore the hotel grounds, starting with the ballroom.

Well, WOW. I mean, really wow! This ballroom was amongst the most beautiful I’d ever seen! The level of detail and intricacy that went into the design of that ballroom was incredible. The entire hotel structure dates back to the 1900’s, and still maintains the quintessential design elements from that time period, today. Everything was gold trimmed and accented; the ceilings were painted into sky murals, and golden mirrors and arches lined the ballroom. It was absolutely stunning. In fact, there were a couple weddings that happened to be going on that weekend, so we were able to see the bride walk into the ballroom. It was straight out of a movie, magical!

Back into the lobby, the ceilings and accents are just the same – beautifully painted murals, golden arches and displays of flowers throughout the foyer. We could’ve admired the place for forever, but we thought it time to move on to the next best thing, the rooftop!

With an incredible sunset view of the Back Bay, we ended our last night enjoying a few drinks on the Fairmont’s private rooftop patio. A truly perfect ending to our perfect weekend!
